The 5th grade has begun work on a new mural. They are turning egg cartons into a painting surface and using each cone that sticks out as one of the grid squares. Below are some pics. of the progress. New Art 2011 11/11/2011

I always wondered how he was able to get that much dimension in his works. The rope technique! HOIAC Judge's Award Winners 03/22/2011
For our conference art show this year we had five different students pick up six judges awards. The conference art show took place at Bondurant's brand new high school. Overall the show turned out some nice pieces with a large turnout in the Acrylic category. My students were excited to participate in the show and super excited when they found out some of their pieces received blue ribbons. Great job to everyone that participated! MONAPOLY 10/14/2010
After having success last year with "The Art Game" I decided to go all out with the game this year. So, I created the game MONApoly, combining the game of MONOPOLY with MONA Lisa. I'm sure it's been done before, but I'll take credit for the idea. The game works like this, when the students come to class they have the chance to move their game piece (which is and animal I bought at a party supply store) based on how well the class does on. 1. coming into class 2. work time and 3. clean up and line up. If they have a good day they move ahead one space, ok day stay on that space, and bad art day they move back. On the corners of the game board are different levels. Each level they land on is an incentive. The incentive is usually a free art day, which entails 6 art stations that they can choose from. The middle of the board has given me a chance to show my students how cool it can be when linear perspective is used. Hope you like the idea. Any questions, leave a comment and I'll get back to you. The Never Ending Painting! 09/30/2010
Earlier this year I made a large canvas (6'x6') and placed it on one of the art room walls in anticipation of a sign for the art room. Last week one of my students asked if they could paint on it. My first response was "No." After thinking about it for a day I came up with the idea that this could be an on going project for students to do in their free time. So the next day I filled up a plastic cup with black paint, got a brush and handed it to a student and said "paint something." She could not believe that I was going to let her paint on this large canvas. She stood for a long while in front of the canvas before I took her hand with the paint and made line in the middle of the canvas. After that she was good. The students absolutely love to paint on the canvas. One of the students said " I feel like I'm doing something bad". I had to laugh about that. Below are some pics of the painting. Once we have enough black space I'm going to give them white paint. A New School Year! 08/23/2010
The year is underway! I'm excited with how smoothly the first day of school went today. The kids seemed excited to get started with creating. The first few weeks at the elementary we will be working with line and design. It always helps to get them moving the pencil on the paper again right away. This year I created a new star art game for my students to play throughout the year. I stretched canvas on a 6'x6' frame to create the board. The board is run off of a Monopoly board game with the same set up. The game is going to be called MONApoly. In middle of the board I placed a picture of the Mona Lisa. Many of my students didn't get the play on words. Oh well, maybe by the end of the year they will get it. |
